A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged savings account that is used in conjunction with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). HSAs were created to help individuals save money on healthcare costs and give them more control over their healthcare spending. Contributions to an HSA are tax-deductible, and the funds can be used to pay for qualified medical expenses, including those related to dry eye treatment. Unlike a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), unused HSA funds roll over from year to year, making it a great way to save for future healthcare expenses. HSAs are portable, meaning you can take it with you if you change jobs or retire.
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a tax-advantaged savings account that is used to pay for eligible out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. With an FSA, you can set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck to cover qualified medical expenses, including dry eye treatment. FSA funds must be used by the end of the plan year or you risk losing the money. However, some plans offer a grace period or a carryover provision, allowing you to use the funds beyond the plan year. The funds in an FSA cannot be carried over from one year to the next, so it’s important to plan your contributions carefully. FSAs can help you save money on healthcare expenses while reducing your taxable income.

Vision coverage typically includes routine eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses aimed at maintaining overall eye health and correcting refractive errors. Medical coverage, on the other hand, addresses eye conditions and emergencies, such as infections, injuries, and diseases that require prompt medical attention. While vision plans cover preventative care and eyewear, medical insurance is used for diagnosing and treating eye health issues that are more urgent or complex. Understanding the difference helps ensure you use the appropriate coverage for your specific eye care needs.
